Or, more accurately, which songs do you relate to the books and/or characters?

Cosmic Love, by Florence and The Machine, sums pretty much what I think it would a perfect song for the whole series. The lyrics are incredibly fitting (it's even space-y themed!), and the melody is striking.

And it might be just my obsession with fan soundtracks, but I've, hmn, yeah, thought of more. Erm.

Change Cage, Abney Park. For the war going on, and the humans vision on it. Steampunky song, addicting.
Alive, Meat Loaf. Adventure song! I can't help but imagine lots of cool fight scenes involving the jets with this song. Winter Born by the Crüxshadows is also a song for fighting moments, although a little darker. It's one of my favorite songs ever.

For Jos, I like Sia's Numb. Sia has a collection of bittersweet songs and her voice is incredibly beautiful. This song ends up being very hopeful, and I guess Jos deserves that.

For the Damaged, by Blonde Headhead, is a creepy, childlike song I associate so much to Evan and Jos.

Ryan is special and I have even Lady Gaga songs for him. Oh, come on, Paparazzi is just sooo Austro Station's "Hot #1 Bachelor"! Grin

The City is at War is amazingly close to Ryan's lifestyle, with the 'designer drugs and designer friends' spot on. I always think this is the music playing at the party where he's shot at, it's just so upbeat, perfect to dance to. My musical fan believes Repo! The Genetic Opera songs are also cool for him, specially Infected.

For Yuri, Not so Pretty, the Rogues.

And the Cure's Lullaby is creepy and still gives me the shivers everytime I hear it. Guess who I have this as theme song for.

Let's see if I can think of the ones I've come up with over the years.

Greenwheel - Breathe
This is a song that makes me think of Evan and Jos, from Evan's POV primarily.  There is also a version by Melissa Etheridge that came out at roughly the same time, but the Greenwheel version has slightly different lyrics, and the sound of it seems more like what Evan would like.

Rise Against - The Good Left Undone
This one isn't for anyone in specific, really, or it could be for a lot of them at varying times.

Saosin - It's Far Better to Learn
This is for Yuri.

Strata - Stay Young
This is sort of for all of them.  Another one that suits all of them, at some point.

I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them off the top of my head at the moment.

Well, I don't think that I really have to mention the first 30stm album...

Beyond that, though,  I can think of quite a few. Stone Sour's Made of Scars goes for Yuri, easily. As does Nine Inch Nails' Happiness in Slavery. As does Murder by Death's Master's in Reverse Psychology. Perhaps the Accident Experiment's Sick Love Letter, too.

Made of Scars:

Happiness in Slavery:

Master's in Reverse Psychology:

Sick Love Letter:

I like Disturbed's Land of Confusion (which is a cover, I know) for the whole peace effort. That's here:
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/disturbed/landofconfusion.html

I like Aaron Sprinkle's No Reason to Pretend in association with Jos, but I've never figured out quite who to. Maybe Niko. That's here:
http://www.metrolyrics.com/no-reason-to-pretend-lyrics-aaron-sprinkle.html

I like Yoav's Club Thing in association with Ryan's shallow party world. That's here:

I know there is more, but that's just what's up on my current playlist. I'll add others later. Maybe I'll figure out the cool links in the mean time. All I can remember how to do is the hyperlinked urls. That goes beyond just Warchild, but I figured that was acceptable.

I love that you thought to post this, because I listened to music a lot writing those books and created playlists for them too. I think I talked about it a little on the old board but I might want to relook at it, as my musical tastes have expanded since.

This is so much fun to see what people think. I'll be going through and listening!

To add to this list:

I list Mudvayne's Fall Into Sleep for the whole world set/peace effort. That's here:
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/mudvayne/fallintosleep.html

Associated with the whole political-meedee thing, mostly with Burndive in my mind, I have Muse's Uprising, found here:
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/muse/uprising.html

I've got Alabama 3's Woke Up This Morning associated with Yuri. Not surprising, it was also the Soprano's theme. That's here:
http://www.metrolyrics.com/woke-up-this-morning-lyrics-a3-alabama-3.html

I've got Papa Roach's Revenge associated with Yuri, not in somuch as his relationship with another person, but more with pirating. That's here:
http://www.angelfire.com/vt2/pronline/lyrics/infest/revenge.html

I've got more lying around, but I should probably be sleeping now, so that will have to wait.

I've got Marilyn Manson's version of This is Halloween on my pirate-y play list as well, but if you all don't know that one already, you should.  Wink

Hmm... I like that Killers song. Music video's weird as all get out, but the song is catchy.

Adding to this list...

The Offspring's The Kids Aren't Alright goes with thinking about Yuri and Bo-Sheng getting onto the Khan and, well, how well that turned out. Also out of the Offspring, You're Gonna Go Far Kid also makes me think of Yuri.

The Kid's Aren't Alright:

You're Gonna Go Far Kid:
http://www.plyrics.com/lyrics/offspring/youregonnagofarkid.html

Also for Yuri in general, at least when he's an adult, I like Oleander's Don't Break My Fall. I like another Oleander song called Hands Off the Wheel for Ryan.

Don't Break My Fall:
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/oleander/dontbreakmyfall.html
Hands Off the Wheel:
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/oleander/handsoffthewheel.html

That's all for now, off the music I played out of my library tonight. Probably more later.
